Dorothy Busch of Grand Forks, ND went home to be with her Savior, surrounded by her daughters on March 23, 2020. Dorothy Evelyn Jennings was born on January 26, 1932 in Rugby, ND to Kenneth and Agnes (Tweet) Jennings. She graduated from Rugby High School in 1949 and Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. On June 21, 1953 Dorothy married Ronald Busch of Sawyer, ND. They lived in Minot and Dorothy worked at Trinity Hospital. In 1954 Ronald was drafted in the army and stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri.

In 1955 Ronald was sent to Fontainebleau, France where he was stationed at the army base. Dorothy and their daughter, LeeAnne, joined him in France where their second daughter, Dawn, was born. After army discharge, the family returned to Minot, where Ronald worked at Sweetheart Bakeries. After being transferred to Rugby, Dorothy began working part-time at Good Samaritan Hospital. Two more daughters, Cheryl and Karen, were born. In the fall of 1958 Ronald was promoted and they returned to Minot where Dorothy began working at Trinity Hospital from 1959 until 1963 when their fifth daughter, Alana, was born.

After Ronald’s job transfer to Grand Forks, Dorothy began working at Deaconess Hospital, which became United Hospital. During her 40 years there, she worked as a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit, Coronary Care, as the Clinical Resource Nurse for patient education, and in Quality Assurance. She was inducted into the Nurses’ Hall of Fame in 2004.

In 1971 Dorothy and family moved to the country in East Grand Forks. In 1989 Dorothy and Ronald took early retirement. They spent their time remodeling a home, traveling to Europe and all over the Southwest. After moving to Grand Forks and purchasing a condo in Phoenix, Dorothy and Ronald spent the next 20 years as Snowbirds, splitting their time between Arizona and North Dakota. During those years Dorothy volunteered for 16 years at a Phoenix hospital and 13 years at United Hospital. Dorothy loved reading, gardening, golfing, writing letters, baking Christmas cookies, and visiting with family and their many friends. Dorothy was an active member of St Paul’s Lutheran in Minot and Immanuel Lutheran in Grand Forks, where her children attended school. In 1971 Dorothy became a member of First Lutheran Church in East Grand Forks as well as Atonement Lutheran in Glendale, Arizona. For 20 years Dorothy was involved with a very active Bible study group. Dorothy loved her Lord and was a devoted Christian.
